What is YouTube?
YouTube is one of the most popular websites in the world. It is also one of Google's most profitable ventures. YouTube is a video sharing and broadcasting website that allows users to upload, view and share videos. The site is available on a wide range of platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux and the Web. It has also become a great way for celebrities and public figures to communicate with their audiences.
YouTube began as a Google project in 2005 as an online video sharing platform with no restrictions on copyright or promotion of brands. Google bought YouTube in 2006 and has controlled the site since. At first, the site was only accessible on the Internet, but there are now apps available for both Android and iOS that allow users to access the site without needing to connect to the Internet. The original design for YouTube was Freeflare's conga Village, which was later changed to YouTube's current logo. Although Jeroen Hutchings originally created YouTube, he later sold it to Google along with his shares in the company. The name 'YouTube' is a portmanteau of 'you' and 'tape.' Originally called Jeroen Hutchings' Digital Village , it was only accessible on the Internet and had no physical presence. However, when the site was made available for download on PC in May 2005 , it became available to all users without being online. The original URL for YouTube was www.youtube.com , but this was later changed to www.youtube.com/tv when TV channels were added to the site.
The first upload on YouTube was by FroggytheToad on April 23rd , 2005 . It was a video titled ' Froggy's Tutorial 1 – The Rules' that showed him how to make a frog puppet . Since then, there have been over 800 million videos uploaded to YouTube; these have been viewed over billions of times and made the website incredibly popular.
There is evidence that YouTube wasn't entirely honest about how popular its website was when Google purchased it. Initially there were only 100,000 videos on the website- making it seem less popular than it actually was. This led many people to question whether or not Google had purchased a viable business or if Google had purchased a novelty website with little potential for growth . Once Google owned YouTube, they began promoting it through Google web pages and paid keyword advertisements . Promoting a new website can be very expensive; this is why some companies only do this if the website is actually worth promoting .
Many people were initially skeptical about whether or not people would use YouTube or not. Many felt that people would only upload videos if they had something interesting to say or if they were famous . Even though this wasn't necessarily true, people DID have concerns about copyright infringement when YouTube first debuted . There were also issues with bandwidth at launch which limited users from uploading large amounts of data at once . These issues have since been resolved , and now anyone can upload videos to YouTube without limits .
Despite being purchased by Google nine years ago, YouTube has become one of their flagship sites ever since its inception. It's accessible anywhere users have internet access and allows anyone with a camera or smartphone any audience whatsoever - regardless of if they are famous or have anything interesting to say . Because of this, YouTube has revolutionized how we communicate and has become an integral part of our daily lives .
